73-68- More Failures

24 Feb

Well, I got behind for the entire month of February almost. It is a busy one for our family and truthfully, I am in a bit of a funk. At any rate, I am going to play catch up here by weeks.  We had another ice day here, which has really boiled down to if it is cold, we stay home. After last week and the districts waiting too long and all the districts, there were 18 lawsuits filed and lost of snafus so they are too scared. If there is a chance of precipitation and it’s below freezing we start with a late start and end up staying home, which honestly, has been just fine with me.

73- Rex’s last day of chemo! Yeah! Yeah! Yeah! That also means that in a few days, he will start his stem cell implantation. Scary and exciting.

72- Girl Day

Missy Mack and I had a girl day in downtown Austin since Mr. Mack had to stay home and wait on a plumber. A pipe burst. I took Missy Mack to dance, we had fancy dinner, went to a funky toy store and had a grand old time.

We returned home to find that our plumbing was not fixed. Our landlord sat outside our in  his car for 20 min when the plumber was due to arrive, which is why Mr. Mack had to stay home, he left and texted Mr. Mack stating that the plumber would instead be at our house at 7:30 AM the next day. Whatever!

71- Greek Orthodox Church

Today I went to the Greek Orthodox church for confirmation. This church was stunning. Of course, it took about 30 minutes to settle in and figure out what was going on but it was fascinating. I am certain that I could spend the rest of my life visiting churches and checking our other religions. A family joined the church this morning and we got to see this ceremony. They cut their hair! These people are very ceremonial. The pastor was witty and smart and caring. I love it and learned a lot.

70- Brrr It’s Cold Outside

After a beautiful weekend it is bitterly cold outside. We have had the fire going constantly and everyone in the family is trying to get in on the warmth.

69- New Stuff

We got new stools and Mr. L got a new toy. We decided to get together and show them both off.

68- Meeting Famous People

Today I got to host the famous Colin Meloy, author and singer of the Decemberist and his wife, illustrator, Cason Ellis at our school for an author visit that our librarian won. Our poor Librarian was stuck in Chicago because her appendix burst while she was there for a funeral. I was happy to hop in as the hostess. These two were delightful and I enjoyed their stories of creativity and how they grew up to do exactly what they wanted to do when they were young. How inspiring. They visited a local bookstore that evening for more and they graciously signed books and visited with all the gushing students and teachers. Missy Mack immediately got to work on reading their first collaboration project Wildwood together before bed and so fare we love it.

74: Another Ice Day

1 Feb

This ice day was a little more dramatic than Fridays. Austin ISD called a late start yesterday at 3:30. As I was getting dressed this morning, I could hear ice pellets hitting my windows, I get an email that school is having business as usual today. We were late attempting to get on the road because even after thawing the car out, our doors were frozen shut and we couldn’t get in the car. As I finally get us settled and wondering what kind of nut I am for driving Missy Mack and I down the hill in this mess, we get the call the we are having a late start. Luckily, we weren’t on the road but lots of teachers were already at school and buses were already en route. There were wrecks and all sorts of mess with teachers, students and parents by the end of the day. 200 accidents all over the city. Crazy town. The day ended with a very nice apology by the superintendent but if I had an accident, I’m not sure it would be enough. It will be 70 degrees on Friday.

75: Spray On Lotion

1 Feb

I am going to try this stuff to see if it relieved the dry winter crust I feel. It smells lovely. Let’s up it’s hydrating. I just find the task if putting on lotion laborious and greasy. Maybe I have found my answer.

76: Napping Day

1 Feb

Mr. Mack and I had the most lovely nap in the couch today just like we used to in the olden days. It was awesome. That’s all.

77: Busiest Day Ever!

1 Feb

This morning, we learned our hot water wasn’t working in not enough time to do anything about it as we raced out the door for ballet.

After ballet we went to lunch and to run errands. Then we were off to sell Girl Scout cookies at our assigned booth for the first time. Missy Mack is a born sales person. Girl can hard press anyone into buying some cookies. If you don’t want any, you better believe she talked you into buying some for the veterans or for operation cookie. We sold all of our cookies. I was very proud.

78: Snow (Ice) Day

25 Jan

We went to bed last night with the knowledge that we would have a 2 hour delay due to icy roads. We could hear the sleet coming down as the call came in. The cedar has been killing me and all I have wanted to do is close my eyes each and every day so I was looking forward to sleeping in a little. I was awaken this morning to the district calling to say they were cancelling school altogether so we left our PJs on all day. I seriously didn’t get out of bed all day long. Of course we had to deal with the drama of the neighbor girls with the whole neighborhood not going to school today. It was super challenging. They called Missy Mack cruel all day because every time they came out, she went inside. We rainbow loomed, watched movies and Missy Mack watched Frozen videos on YouTube all day. Do you want to build a snowman?

79: Super Teaching Day

25 Jan

I was a Rock Star Teacher today. I have actually had a few days like this during this particular week. I am not sure why, what secret magic I have flowing, but it is a good feeling. I just love my job. My students had presentations this morning and they were total Rock Stars. I received SEVERAL e mails from parents stating as much and thanking me for what I do. I am so fortunate to work in a school where parents take the time to let you know how grateful they are for you. It was so proud of my students today and I hope they we proud of themselves. I was just a great moment. I wish I could bottle up days like today.
